Fendt 1000 Vario Gen4 – the big tractors from Marktoberdorf: 1040 to 1052 Vario with MAN six-cylinder, 12.4-litre displacement, 294 to 383 kW, stepless Vario transmission and a 14-tonne unladen weight
The Fendt 1000 Vario is the big-tractor range from the Marktoberdorf plant in the Allgäu, the brand's home site since its founding by the Fendt brothers. The 1040, 1044, 1048 and 1052 Vario carry the approximate power class in hp in their type designation; they bring the stepless Vario transmission that Fendt has fitted across all ranges since the 1990s to the group's highest power class. They are driven by a shared six-cylinder of 12.4 litres from the MAN engine programme, which Fendt has sourced since the range's introduction. The cab is suspended at all four corners, giving calm seating comfort on long working days even at high drawbar loads and on uneven ground.

The register lists here 4 versions with 294 to 383 kW from the 12.4-litre six-cylinder, at an unladen weight of 14,000 kg and a gross weight of 23,000 kg.
The 1000 Vario forms the top of Fendt's range for arable farming with high drawbar demand and heavy mounted implements and competes there with the largest models from John Deere, Case IH and New Holland. In Eastern Europe, North America and Australia the range mainly serves operations with especially large fields, in Western Europe machinery rings and contractors needing high drawbar power on short notice.
On these big tractors, operating hours and the MAN engine's service history count, the condition of the Vario transmission and hydraulic pumps, tyre condition given the high gross weight, and the completeness of the electronics, steering systems and pre-installed wiring for precision-farming applications; spare parts and service run through the Fendt dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
