Eicher 4000 (1970s and 1980s) – the air-cooled mid-range tractors from Dingolfing: 4048 to 4072, the last digits as hp class, A for four-wheel drive, Eicher three- and four-cylinders of 2.5 to 4.1 litres, 35 to 53 kW
The 4000 range was Eicher's mid-range in the late period of the Dingolfing maker – the tractors with which the Eicher brothers served the Bavarian market after Massey Ferguson's entry in 1970 and before the end of tractor production in Dingolfing in the 1980s. The type logic: 40 marks the range, the last two digits the hp class – 4048 about 48 hp, 4056 56 hp, 4066 66 hp, 4072 72 hp – A four-wheel drive. The engines are Eicher's own air-cooled diesels, the maker's hallmark since the 1950s: three-cylinders of 2.5 litres in the small, four-cylinders of 4.1 litres in the big models, at rated speeds of 2,100 to 2,170 rpm – engines that managed without radiator and antifreeze and were regarded as undemanding in the mountains as in the lowlands.

The 4000s are still at work on grassland farms in Bavaria and Austria today and popular with collectors, because Eicher built no more tractors after 1990 and the air-cooled layout ended with the maker.
