Eicher 3000 series (Mammut) – range from Forchheim and Dingolfing of the 1960s and 1970s: four-cylinder diesel of 3,927 cm3, 45.4 to 47 kW, A four-wheel-drive version and HR equipment variant
The Mammut model family formed one of the larger ranges of the Eicher works in the 1960s and 1970s, a company founded in Forchheim in Upper Bavaria and which later also built tractors in Dingolfing. The four-digit type numbers such as 3012, 3019, 3020 and 3422 order the models within the range, the A suffix marks the four-wheel-drive version, and HR a separate equipment variant within the range. The name Mammut denoted Eicher's larger, more powerful models above the brand's compact tractors.

The register lists here four versions with 45.4 to 47 kW from four-cylinder engines of 3,927 cm3 displacement. Unladen weight ranges from 2,825 to 3,140 kg, overall length from 3,550 to 3,600 mm, width from 1,900 to 1,970 mm and height from 1,680 to 1,700 mm. Rated speed sits at 2,000 rpm.
At just under 46 kW output, the Mammut 3000 series served the mid power segment of West German field tractors of the period, competing with comparable four-cylinder tractors from Fendt, Deutz and Massey Ferguson, which in the same years supplied mixed farms in Bavaria and beyond.
On these now-historic tractors, what counts is rust on the frame, mudguards and bonnet, the condition of the clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulics and lift linkage, and the function of the lighting system and cab instruments. Spare parts for the Eicher engines and gearboxes are today obtained mainly through specialist vintage-tractor dealers and Eicher clubs, which also offer reproduced wear parts.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
