The Gens ace G-Tech 5000mAh 6S 60C is a LiPo battery from Gens ace, a Grepow brand, with a nominal 22.2 V. The maker lists the pack among RC helicopter batteries; voltage, capacity and XT90 connector suit mid-size multicopters just as well.

22.2 V and 5 Ah give 111 Wh; at 724 g that is about 153 Wh/kg at pack level, a figure usual for standard LiPo built for current strength rather than energy. The maker quotes 60C continuous and 120C peak discharge; on 5 Ah that is 300 A and 600 A. These numbers describe the cells; the XT90 connector, rated for about 90 A continuous, limits what can flow in service.

111 Wh lies between 100 and 160 Wh. Under the IATA passenger leaflet (February 2019 edition) such a spare battery is allowed only with the airline's approval, at most two of them and only in hand baggage, protected against short circuit. Every shipment requires UN 38.3 testing. The 724 g count towards the take-off mass on which the EU classes C0 to C4 are drawn.

In selection cell count (6S) and XT90 must suit ESC and motors; in a multicopter the continuous hover current matters, not the peak figure. Packs from the helicopter range are built for short, sharp load changes; wear shows as growing voltage sag, swelling and cell voltages drifting apart at the seven-pin balance lead. Store at about 3.8 V per cell, here 22.8 V, in a cool place.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
