The Flywoo Explorer Molicel P45B 6S1P 4500mAh is a lithium-ion pack from Flywoo for small FPV drones flying long range. Six Molicel P45B cells in the 21700 format are connected in series (6S1P), and the pack delivers 4,500 mAh at a nominal 22.2 V.

22.2 V and 4.5 Ah give 99.9 Wh; at 433.7 g that is about 230 Wh/kg at pack level. The continuous current of 45 A corresponds to 10C (45 A divided by 4.5 Ah). Because only one cell works in each stage, every cell carries the full pack current. High-current Li-ion of this type sits between an energy pack and a racing LiPo: more energy per kilogram than LiPo, but less power reserve. The connector is an XT60, which leaves headroom for 45 A.

The 99.9 Wh sit just below 100 Wh. Under the IATA passenger leaflet (February 2019 edition) a spare battery of this size may travel in hand baggage, protected against short circuit, for example in its original packaging or with taped terminals. UN 38.3 testing is the precondition; airlines may apply stricter rules. At 433.7 g the pack is far above the 250 g limit of EU class C0.

In selection the current demand of the drive must stay below 45 A in continuous flight; anyone who flies permanently at the limit heats the cells and shortens their life. Wear shows as falling capacity and voltage sag, not as swelling. At the seven-pin balance lead one checks the six cell voltages; a deviating cell is a warning sign. Storage is in the middle of the charge range as the maker specifies, and cold reduces power.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
