The AARTOS 360 Grad Smart Jammer from the German manufacturer Aaronia is a counter-drone jammer for fixed installations and vehicles. It overlays a drone's radio link, meaning control, video or navigation signals, with its own emissions. What follows depends on the drone's failsafe setting: return, landing or a crash.
Only authorised agencies and armed forces may operate the system. In Germany every use of frequencies needs an assignment from the Bundesnetzagentur (Section 91(1) TKG); private individuals and companies cannot operate a jammer. Drone defence itself follows Section 15a LuftSiG. In Poland, Article 42 of the 2024 Electronic Communications Law sets narrow limits, and drone defence is governed by Article 156ze of the Aviation Law (Dz.U. 2025 item 179). Anyone jamming wide ranges inevitably affects other radio services as well.
The manufacturer states an effect range of up to 10 km, presented at DSEI 2025; earlier devices in the series: up to 8 km for the automatic sector jammer (1.3 kW), 2 km for the handheld unit. The frequency range runs from 400 MHz to 6 GHz and can be extended. Four to eight sector antennas together cover 360 degrees, and the jamming is programmed per sector so that it acts only where a target is. Transmit power is up to 800 W continuous wave (CW); the EIRP, transmit power multiplied by antenna gain, reaches up to 5,000 W.
Form factor matters when choosing: a fixed or vehicle-mounted system needs a mast, power supply and a link to a situational picture, but protects an entire site. Sector operation burdens the surroundings less than constant all-round jamming. At high continuous power the wear points are the output stages, cooling, antenna feed lines and connectors; software upkeep covers the jamming profiles. Drones without a radio link or with fibre-optic control cannot be influenced this way.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
