Dongfeng – other models: the collective page of Chinese compact tractors outside the named ranges, DF-204 to DF-554 under numerous importer names, 15 to 56 kW, three-cylinder diesels throughout

This page gathers the Dongfeng tractors the register could not assign to a named range – small and medium compacts built on the same DF chassis but sold under a wide range of names. Dongfeng Motor Corporation was formed in 1969 as the Second Automobile Works in Shiyan in China's Hubei province and is today one of China's largest vehicle and farm-machinery groups. The DF designation followed by a three-digit number gives roughly the power class – DF224 and DF254 sit around 20 to 25 hp, DF304 and DF354 around 30 to 35 hp, DF404 around 40 hp, DF504 and DF554 around 50 to 55 hp – the suffixes G, G2 and G3 mark different equipment stages. It is notable that a large share of the names in the register, such as Percheron, Stark, Talon, Buck, Devonn, Bemaq or Horse-Powered, do not come from Dongfeng itself but from European and North American importers and distributors who sell the same tractors under their own brand.

The register lists here 55 versions with 15 to 56 kW or 20 to 75 hp from three-cylinders throughout of 1,123 to 2,545 cm³, unladen weights from 1,022 to 1,765 kg and gross weights from 1,750 to 2,375 kg.

Dongfeng-based compacts of this size class have established themselves mainly in the entry segment for small holdings, fruit and wine growing and municipal work, where they are priced below the established Japanese and European brands; the many importer names for identical machines, however, make it harder to keep track of parts and service history.

On used tractors, engine condition and rust on the thin-gauge sheet metal count, clutch and gearbox, the condition of lift and PTO, and – because of the many importer names – clearly identifying the actual manufacturer model from the nameplate and chassis number; parts are often available only through the respective importer rather than a unified dealer network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
