DAF LF – light and medium-duty distribution truck range since 2001, built at the Leyland plant in Lancashire, with rigid (FA) and tractor-unit (FT) versions, 129 to 233 kW, diesel only

This page gathers the versions of the DAF LF, the light and medium-duty distribution range the Dutch truck maker DAF of Eindhoven has built since 2001; production takes place at the British Leyland plant in Lancashire, which DAF acquired with the takeover of Leyland Trucks. DAF has belonged to the American commercial-vehicle group PACCAR since 1996. In the model designations, FA denotes the rigid chassis with day cab, FT the tractor unit; the number after the letters gives the approximate power class in hp.

The register lists here 13 versions with 129 to 233 kW, displacements from 4,500 to 6,700 cm³, unladen weights from 3,867 to 7,699 kg, and diesel power throughout.

Within DAF's range, the LF occupies the distribution-truck segment between vans and the heavy CF and XF ranges and is used above all in urban and regional delivery traffic, for instance by hauliers, beverage distributors and waste-disposal firms. On the LF base, DAF also builds chassis for municipal and fire-service bodies.

On used examples, the turbocharger and injection system matter on the diesel engines, the condition of the suspension and braking system on the chassis, rust at the entry steps and the floor on the cab, and the condition of the fifth wheel and kingpin on the tractor units; parts run through the DAF dealer network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
