The CF replaced the older DAF 65/75/85 series in 1998 as the medium-to-heavy range between the lighter LF and the long-haul flagship XF; larger facelifts followed in 2013 and 2017. The type designation consists of the CF series and a three-digit number for engine output in horsepower (220 to 530 in the register), followed by codes for the body type – FA and FT denote tractor-unit or chassis variants, and FAN, FAR, FAS and FAG equipment or cab variants under DAF's factory nomenclature.
