Cummins ISX15 – the heavy six-cylinder of the EPA 2010 era (2010–2016): 14.9 litres, 362 to 583 hp, SCR instead of EGR alone
The ISX15 is the development stage of Cummins' ISX family, which appeared in 1998 as the first heavy Cummins with electronic control and replaced the N14. With the US emissions standard EPA 2010 the engine gained SCR aftertreatment with urea in addition to particulate filter and cooled exhaust gas recirculation – the previous EPA 2007 generation had relied on EGR alone and was known for high heat load and fuel consumption. The ISX15 ran until 2016 and was replaced in 2017 by the X15, which carries the same displacement forward.
