Cnh Steiger 470

The Steiger 470 carries a six-cylinder diesel engine with 12,900 cm³ of displacement, producing 476 hp, or 350 kW, at 2,100 rpm. At 18,600 kg, 7,493 mm long, 3,957 mm high and 2,549 mm wide, the machine ranks among the heaviest wheeled tractors in the register; the hydraulics lift up to 9,000 kg.

The articulated steering between two frame sections still gives a usable turning radius for a wheeled tractor of this class despite the enormous size, while the four-wheel drive turns the engine's high output into traction on loose and heavy soils. A machine of this power class is built for primary tillage with wide cultivators and disc harrows and for heavy towed loads, not for work with light implements or fast road travel.

When buying such a large four-wheel-drive tractor used, the condition of the articulation joint and its bearings matters most, as they carry heavy side loads over years of field work. Also worth checking are the tightness of the many hydraulic lines for steering and implements, the condition of the drive axles and final drives, and possible leaks in the cooling system of the large six-cylinder engine.
