Clark – The Inventor of the Hydraulic Forklift Truck
Eugene Clark began working for the Illinois Steel Company in 1904, gradually improving production processes; this became the Clark Equipment Company in 1916. In 1920, Clark introduced the "Truclift", the world's first internal-combustion platform lift truck to raise loads hydraulically rather than through mechanical gears and linkage. In 1928 came the "Tructractor", the first complete internal-combustion forklift truck, which likewise used hydraulics rather than chains and cables to lift loads, and is regarded as a direct forerunner of the modern forklift. From these beginnings, the company grew into one of the world's best-known makers of material-handling equipment. Listed in the register: the SEC20-35 and the STE/SE16-20 series.
