Challenger is the tracked-tractor brand AGCO took over from Caterpillar in 2002, together with the plant in Jackson, Minnesota, where the MT range has been built ever since. The MT type designation stands for Mobile Track, the following number for the power class, C for a revised equipment generation, E for an earlier version; the rubber-track undercarriage, originally developed by Caterpillar for the Challenger, spreads the big tractors' high weight over a wide footprint, sparing the soil compared with wheeled tractors of equal power. The range's engines originally came from Caterpillar, increasingly from AGCO Power with the move to AGCO.
