The type logic: D marks the dozer, the number the size class – D3 and D4 the small dozers around 8 t, D5 and D6 the mid-range, D7 and D8 the heavy ones, D9, D10 and D11 the mining dozers of over 100 t – the letters B to T the generations since the 1970s (D6D, D6H, D6R, D6T), LGP the swamp version with wide tracks (Low Ground Pressure), XL the long undercarriage, SA the version with special attachments, WH the landfill version (Waste Handler) and CD the version with Carrydozer blade; the K and K2 models are the small dozers of the 2010s. The 797 is Caterpillar's largest haul truck with about 400 tonnes payload. The engines are throughout Caterpillar's own: 3204 and 3304 in the small, 3306 in the mid-range, 3408 and C series in the heavy dozers and the 24-cylinder 3524 in the 797.
