According to Wikipedia, the D6R replaced the D6H in 1996; the D6H had itself launched in 1986 as the first D6 with the elevated-sprocket design still used today. In 2007 the D6T took over as the current D6 generation — so the D6R marks exactly the generation between these two models, and was itself revised once more as a Series II during its production run.
Like the whole D6 class, the D6R sees use in classic earthmoving, road building and land reclamation — its mid-weight class makes it versatile enough for most standard dozing jobs without the transport and running costs of a D8 or D9 class.
