Case IH C series (1997–2001) – the Steyr twins from St. Valentin for the lower mid-range: C 42 to C 70, the number as hp class, A for four-wheel drive, Perkins three-cylinders of 2.4 to 3.1 litres, 31 to 52 kW
The C series was Case IH's answer to the class under 70 hp in Europe – compact utility tractors that came from the St. Valentin plant in Austria after Case's takeover of Steyr in 1996 and were technically the twins of the Steyr 900 M range: the same three-cylinders, the same gearboxes, only in red. The type logic: C marks the range, the number the hp class – C 42 about 42 hp, C 48 about 48, C 55 about 55, C 64 about 64, C 70 about 70 hp – A four-wheel drive. The engines are Perkins three-cylinders of the 1003 and 1004 series (the 1004.42 in the register) of 2.4 to 3.1 litres at 2,300 to 2,400 rpm, with approval for rapeseed methyl ester as the register notes; the transmissions are synchromesh gearboxes with shuttle and optional creeper gears, the cab the plain Steyr version.
