Campa CP – Dutch trailer range from Amerongen: tandem and tridem trailers in the 3,500 to 7,200 kg class with several body variants for construction and trade businesses

Campa is a family business from Amerongen in the Dutch province of Utrecht that, by its own account, has been building vehicles for well over a hundred years – from wheelbarrows and farm carts through truck bodywork to today's trailers and mobile sales vehicles. Since the 1960s the company has specialised in developing and building trailers. The CP range orders its models by permitted gross weight: CP 3500 denotes the 3,500 kg class, CP 5000 (and CP 50001) around 5,000 kg, CP 6000 the 6,000 kg class, and CP 7200 the heaviest version. Additional letters such as CH, DRK, HK, K, T, TH or VL distinguish the individual body and equipment variants within these weight classes.

The register lists 17 versions of the Campa CP with kerb weights from 1,255 to 5,280 kg and gross vehicle weights from 3,500 to 7,200 kg. Lengths range from 8,700 to 10,310 mm, widths from 1,490 to 2,650 mm.

Trailers of this class serve construction and trade businesses, municipalities and farmers for transporting construction machinery, bulk materials, pallets or vehicles, and compete in the Dutch-German border region with numerous regional trailer builders.

When buying used, it is worth checking the frame and load floor for corrosion and accident damage, the condition of axles, brakes and lighting, and, on tipping variants, the tightness of the hydraulics and the condition of the side panels. Spare parts are supplied by Campa itself and by independent trailer dealers.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
