Buca BCO – platform semi-trailers from Born, Limburg: unladen weight 1,820 to 11,100 kg, gross vehicle weight 7 to 40 tonnes, lengths up to 13,880 mm
Buca began as a coachbuilding business run by the Claessens family, later trading as Buchtens Carrosseriefabriek and shortened to the name Buca. In 1983 Charles Feijts took over the then-struggling company and, from the 1990s onward, built it into a manufacturer of road transport vehicles and a supplier of hydraulic loading and unloading systems, today with locations in Born, Heerlen and Venlo in the Dutch province of Limburg. The BCO range covers platform and container-chassis semi-trailers; several models, such as the BCO-3/39, carry twistlocks for 20 and 40-foot containers.

The register lists 10 versions of the range with unladen weights from 1,820 to 11,100 kg and gross vehicle weights from 7,000 to 40,000 kg. Lengths run from 8,100 to 13,880 mm, widths from 2,280 to 2,600 mm.
With this spread, BCO covers a wide field from the light platform trailer to the full 40-tonne semi-trailer for container transport. The heavier twistlock versions compete in container haulage with the chassis of the large semi-trailer builders, while the lighter variants tend to serve regional general-cargo transport.
On a used example, the container chassis call for checking the twistlocks and their locking mechanism, while on all versions the frame and platform should be checked for corrosion and distortion, along with the axles, brakes and suspension, and on the heavy semi-trailers the kingpin as well. Registration papers and the date of the last roadworthiness inspection are also part of the check, and parts for the standard components come from the usual axle and brake manufacturers.

What to check before buying
- Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
- Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
- Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
- Compare the chassis number with the papers.
- Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
