Bomag BW – Compaction Rollers from Boppard Since 1957
Karl Heinz Schwamborn founded the Bopparder Maschinenbau Gesellschaft in Boppard in 1957, out of which Bomag emerged. Already in its first year, the hand-guided BW 60 became the world's first double vibratory roller driving both drums. In 1962 came the BW 200, the world's first 7-tonne double vibratory roller, which was exported as far as China and remained a long-running sales success for more than 30 years, until 1993. Within just 13 years, Bomag rose to become the world market leader in vibratory rollers. In 1969 the company moved from its original site to the Hellerwald industrial estate in Boppard's Buchholz district, where it remains based today; in 1970 Schwamborn sold the company to the American firm Koehring, and since 2005 Bomag has been part of the French Fayat Group.
