The TДT series from Belarus / Altai Traktor includes the TDT-60. The engine delivers 60 hp, has 4 cylinders, with a displacement of 7,460 cm³. Rated speed is 1,500 rpm. The machine is 5,505 mm long, 2,370 mm wide and 2,700 mm high. The unladen weight is 10,500 kg. The wheelbase measures 2,720 mm. Ground clearance is 550 mm. Transmission: 5/1. Drive: Kette. The fuel is diesel. Construction: Kettentraktor. Rated output within this group ranges from 2 to 760 hp; the TDT-60 sits at the bottom of that range with 60 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 1560 below it with 59.9 hp and the 30-60 above it with 60.8 hp. Unladen weight within this group ranges from 14 to 27,215.5 kg; here the TDT-60 sits in the lower part of that range with 10,500 kg.

Altai Traktor TDT-60: Soviet tracked skidding tractor from Rubtsovsk with a 7,460cc four-cylinder diesel, 60 hp and a weight of 10,500 kg

The manufacturer Altai Traktor ran its plant in Rubtsovsk in the Siberian Altai region, one of the major tractor factories of the Soviet Union. The TДT range denoted skidding tractors built there, which hauled felled logs out of the forest using their own weight and a cable winch, and for that purpose ran on tracks rather than wheels.

The TDT-60 carries a four-cylinder diesel engine with 7,460 cm³ of displacement, producing 60 hp at 1,500 rpm. At 10,500 kg, 5,505 mm long, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase, 2,370 mm width and 2,700 mm height, this is a heavy tracked machine built for driving over rough forest terrain rather than public roads.

The tracked undercarriage spreads the great weight over a large contact area and keeps ground pressure low enough to develop traction even on soft forest floor and in snow. The cable winch at the rear – typical for this class of skidding tractor – dragged logs partly along the ground and partly half-lifted behind the machine, placing heavy loads on the axles and running gear.

When buying a used machine of this kind, the condition of the tracks, the track rollers and the winch matters most, as contact with soil, sand and stones in the forest wears them quickly. The frame should be checked for cracks around the towing point, and the cooling system seals for leaks, since the air- and water-cooled components of such tractors often leak after decades of forest work.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
