Magirus-Deutz – trucks over 12 tonnes (Class N3): air-cooled Deutz engines, Rundhauber and cab-over cabs, 110 to 170 kW, 5,000 to 14,702 cc, kerb weight 5,890 to 14,350 kg
Magirus-Deutz was a commercial-vehicle maker formed in 1936 from the merger of the Ulm-based Magirus works with engine builder Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz, distinguished by air-cooled Deutz diesel engines and its characteristic round-nosed or cab-over cabin; in 1975 the brand became part of the newly formed Iveco group. This collective page brings together the heavy ranges with a gross vehicle weight above 12 tonnes, vehicle class N3. The type designations follow the logic common in the industry: the first number gives engine output in metric horsepower, the second the gross vehicle weight in tonnes, and the letters denote cab and drive – F for cab-over, S for a sleeper cab, K for tipper, AK for four-wheel drive with tipper body, with an axle formula such as 6x4 or 6x6 completing the code.

The register lists 56 versions with six- to ten-cylinder diesel engines from 5,000 to 14,702 cc, kerb weights from 5,890 to 14,350 kg, gross vehicle weights from 12,500 to 40,791 kg, lengths from 5,500 to 9,650 mm and widths from 2,200 to 2,550 mm.
As a heavy range, Magirus-Deutz competed directly with MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Krupp and was common in construction, long-haul and fire-service use; the air-cooled Deutz engines were considered robust and independent of coolant, which suited them to building sites and export vehicles.
When buying a used example, check the condition of the frame and suspension after decades of site work, the seals and cooling-air ducting of the air-cooled engines, corrosion at the cab mounts and wings, and the function of the tipper hydraulics and braking system; spare parts are supplied by specialist Deutz and Iveco parts dealers, and many body panels are remade by classic-vehicle restorers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
