Iveco Fiat is the register's name for the transitional period in which Fiat's light commercial vehicles and the newly founded Iveco brand ran on the same chassis. Iveco was formed in 1975 from the merger of the commercial vehicle divisions of Fiat, OM, Lancia, Unic and Magirus-Deutz; the Fiat Daily, introduced in 1978, was sold as either a Fiat or an Iveco depending on market and model year before the Iveco Daily name became standard. Type codes such as 35, 35S13 or 40.12 follow classic Iveco logic: the first number gives the weight class in hundredweight (35 for around 3.5 t), the letter S the chassis variant, and the following number the engine output in hp; the Icaro 6L is a minibus body on the same chassis.
