The Hymer FAMILLIA 310GT is a caravan from Hymer (EU vehicle class O2), registered as built in 2008. It weighs 740 kg unladen and has a permitted gross weight of 850 kg.
Subtracting the unladen weight from the permitted gross weight leaves the Hymer FAMILLIA 310GT with a payload of 110 kg. For a caravan this covers everything that travels along: gas bottles, awning, water, crockery and luggage; retrofitted equipment such as a motor mover or air conditioning reduces the margin further. At 110 kg this is tight – a trip to a weighbridge before the first journey is worthwhile.
Under EU licensing rules, a category B licence allows a combination of towing vehicle and this trailer up to 3,500 kg permitted total mass – so the towing vehicle may weigh at most 2,650 kg. Code 96 on a B licence raises the limit to 4,250 kg (towing vehicle up to 3,400 kg); beyond that a BE licence is required. Being over 750 kg, the trailer must be braked, and the towing vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 850 kg.
Hymer trailers up to 3.5 t – class O2: classic touring caravans from the German premium brand in Bad Waldsee in the register, EN, EL and C type codes, weights from 280 to 2,150 kg
Hymer was founded in 1957 by Erwin Hymer in Bad Waldsee in Upper Swabia and is one of the best-known German makers of motorhomes and touring caravans. As the founding brand of the Erwin Hymer Group, Hymer is now part of the French Trigano group. In the O2 vehicle class – trailers with a gross weight of 0.75 to 3.5 tonnes – Hymer's entries are its classic touring caravans, whose type names usually start with the letters EN, EL or C followed by a number for size and series, such as EN 495 or EL 530.

The register lists 320 versions with unladen weights from 280 to 2,150 kg and gross weights from 780 to 2,500 kg. Lengths are recorded for 108 models and range from 4,700 to 9,400 mm, widths from 1,850 to 2,530 mm.
Hymer has traditionally positioned itself in the upper segment of the caravan market, competing chiefly with brands such as Tabbert, Bürstner and Fendt-Caravan, which likewise focus on high-quality build and generous floor plans.
When buying used, check for damp in the floor frame and around the roof lights, the condition of window and door seals, the gas system with regulator and hoses, the overrun brake mechanism with its handbrake cable, and tyre age. On the older C and EN series, also assess the frame and support legs, since spare parts for very old models are only available to a limited extent.

What to check before buying
- Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.

- Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
- Compare the chassis number with the papers.
- Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
