Anton Schlüter GV 50 – wood-gas tractor of the G range from the war year 1944: four-cylinder engine with 5,700 cm³ displacement, 36.8 kW/50 hp and 4,700 kg weight
The GV 50 from the G range was built by Anton Schlüter in Munich in 1944, in the final phase of the Second World War, when fuel shortages forced the construction of tractors with alternative drives. The conversion to wood gas affected numerous vehicles from various manufacturers in the last years of the war, since liquid fuel was reserved for the military and the civilian sector had to fall back on domestic fuels such as wood.

The GV 50 is powered by a four-cylinder engine with 5,700 cm³ displacement, running on wood gas, producing 36.8 kW or 50 hp at 1,500 rpm. The machine is 3,900 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 2,400 mm high, weighs 4,700 kg and reaches 32 km/h.
At 32 km/h, the GV 50 falls into driving licence category L. Running on wood gas instead of diesel was a wartime substitute solution, in which a generator carried on the vehicle produced combustible gas from wood; such wood-gas tractors quickly disappeared from production once diesel supply became available again after the war.
A wood-gas tractor such as the GV 50 is today a one-off museum piece; when buying or viewing one, what matters is the completeness of the gas generator, the frame and sheet metal's condition for corrosion, and the traceability of the vehicle's wartime history. Because most surviving vehicles of this type are missing their original gas generator or were later converted to diesel operation, the traceability of the original condition is a key criterion for a vehicle's value.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
