Allis-Chalmers Rumely (6 A, DoAll) – the legacy of the 1931 Advance-Rumely takeover: 12.1 to 25 kW, 2,838 to 6,625 cm³ displacement, petrol engines
The Advance-Rumely Thresher Company of La Porte, Indiana, was known for its kerosene-fuelled OilPull tractors, but ran into financial difficulty during the Great Depression and was taken over by Allis-Chalmers in 1931. The DoAll, a general-purpose tractor with a narrow front axle for row-crop work introduced in 1928, was among the models Allis-Chalmers briefly continued under its own name after the takeover.

The register lists here 2 versions with 12.1 to 25 kW from four- to six-cylinders of 2,838 to 6,625 cm³ displacement, unladen weights from 1,679 to 2,889 kg, a length of 2,743 to 4,140 mm, a width of 1,524 to 1,778 mm, a height of 1,505 to 1,880 mm, and rated speeds of 1,365 to 1,400 rpm; the fuel given throughout is petrol.
By taking over Rumely, Allis-Chalmers secured additional market share in the American tractor business in the early 1930s and, with the DoAll concept, took on an early answer to the emerging narrow-front-axle row-crop tractors that International Harvester had already established with the Farmall.
On these historic used Rumely models, condition of cylinders and carburettor, tightness of the fuel and cooling systems, condition of the narrow front axle and its bearings, and rust on frame and wheels count; parts can practically only be sourced through specialist collectors and vintage clubs.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
