Injection pressure is 220 bar. Rated output across the AGCO Allis range ranges from 48 to 231 hp; the 4650 sits at the bottom of that range with 50 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 5650 below it with 48 hp and the 5660 above it with 58 hp. Rated output across the AGCO Allis range ranges from 40 to 231 hp; here the 4650 sits at the bottom of that range with 40 hp. 58 AGCO Allis models across 14 series are on record.

AGCO Allis 4600 series – compact utility tractors of the early 1990s: three-cylinder diesel with 36.8 to 44.1 kW/40 to 52 hp, 2,715 to 3,117 cm³ displacement, 2,030 to 2,160 kg unladen weight

AGCO Corporation was formed in 1990 from the North American farm-equipment business previously known as Deutz-Allis, and through the 1990s sold the successor models to the Allis-Chalmers tractors under the AGCO Allis brand. Within that range, the 4600 series formed the compact entry class for smaller and mid-size farms.

The register lists here 2 versions with 36.8 to 44.1 kW, or 40 to 52 hp, from three-cylinders of 2,715 to 3,117 cm³ displacement, unladen weights from 2,030 to 2,160 kg, a length of 3,625 to 3,650 mm, a width of 1,675 to 1,760 mm, a height of 2,320 to 2,350 mm, and torque of 141 to 195 Nm at 2,200 rpm.

The AGCO Allis brand bridged, in North America and Europe, the time between the end of independent Allis-Chalmers tractor production and AGCO's later move to its present-day brand names; the 4600 series targeted part-time and smaller full-time farms. In 2001 AGCO dropped the AGCO Allis and AGCO White brands in favour of the corporate AGCO brand; the group had already acquired Massey Ferguson in 1994.

On used 4600s, condition of injection pump and clutch, tightness of the gearbox and shuttle, rust on sheet-metal parts and mudguards, and hydraulic function count; parts today run through the AGCO parts trade and dealers specialising in Allis-Chalmers successor models.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
