Western Star Other models

The register lists 3 versions here with displacement from 12,700 to 14,000 cm³ from six- to eight-cylinder engines, kerb weights from 8,400 to 9,435 kg, gross vehicle weights from 11,900 to 23,600 kg, and lengths from 8,040 to 9,250 mm with widths from 2,450 to 2,500 mm.

As a classic conventional truck, the 4900 series is widespread across North America in long-haul transport, heavy haulage, the oil and forestry industries, and as the base for special bodies such as concrete mixers, tippers or lowboy trailers, a segment where Western Star competes with Freightliner, Kenworth and Peterbilt. The wide span of gross vehicle weights from just under 12,000 kg to nearly 24,000 kg shows how differently the chassis in this series are configured depending on axle count and body.

For a used example, check the chassis and axles for corrosion and wear, clutch and gearbox condition, engine mileage and service history, the operation of the air brake system, and the condition of cab mounts and suspension; parts run through the Western Star dealer network in North America.
