Buying used, the brake system and air lines deserve close attention: brake chambers, the load-sensing valve and coupling heads should be tight and free of corrosion. Check the chassis for rust at cross-members and axle mounts, the axle bearings for play, and the suspension for cracks. Tyres, brake linings and the electrical connector to the towing vehicle round off the check, and on older examples the lashing points and the load floor as well. Checking any surviving service records alongside the condition of the brake drums or discs and the wheel bearings rounds off a thorough inspection before any purchase.
