Volvo MP8 -

Mack Trucks, part of the Volvo Group since 2001, launched the MP8 in 2007 as the larger counterpart to the MP7 introduced a year earlier; together they formed the new MP engine family that replaced older units such as the Mack E7. The letters in Mack's model names (e.g. "415C", "415E", "445M") denote different application focuses such as long-haul or vocational work.

In the Mack Pinnacle lineup, the MP8 is now the only available engine, the smaller MP7 having been dropped — underscoring the MP8's central role in Mack's current long-haul offering.

Like the smaller MP7, the MP8 also runs on wet cylinder liners that can be replaced individually during a major overhaul rather than swapping the whole block. Turbocharging with charge-air cooling, together with exhaust-gas recirculation and an SCR catalyst with AdBlue dosing, are needed to meet the strict North American NOx limits in force since 2010.

Used MP8 units should be checked for documented SCR/EGR service history; since the engine has been in production for roughly two decades, emissions technology differs substantially between early and late model years, affecting both parts compatibility and maintenance needs.
