The SKYLINER already has an unladen weight of 2,978 kg, leaving only around 522 kg of payload. Such a high tare weight relative to gross weight is typical of trailers where the structure itself is the main load, such as vehicle transporters with ramps or an extending deck. Its 2,520 mm width makes almost full use of the frame permitted without a special permit.

Trailers with a high tare weight and little remaining payload usually carry a single vehicle or machine whose own weight already accounts for most of the 3.5 tonnes. They are normally towed with driving licence category BE, since the combination's gross weight with a loaded trailer exceeds the limit for category B. Spare parts for axles, the overrun coupling and lighting are widely available for this common trailer class, independent of the original manufacturer.

When buying used, pay particular attention to the ramps, their hinges and locks, and the mechanism or hydraulics used to lower and raise them, as these see the most stress. The overrun brake, the axle suspension under the high tare weight, and the chassis around the ramp mounts should be checked along with tyre condition. The coupling head with its wear-indicator ring, the overrun brake's breakaway cable and a working light socket also belong on the pre-purchase checklist.
