UpRight of Selma, California, was one of the pioneers of the aerial work platform – founded in 1947 with aluminium scaffolding, in scissor lifts since the 1970s, and through its plants in California and Ireland one of the big makers in the 1990s; in 2013 Snorkel took over the remains of the company, and the UpRight models continued under the Snorkel name. The type logic: X marks the scissor-lift range, the number the platform height in feet – X26 26 ft (7.9 m), X32 32 ft, X80 80 ft – N the narrow version, RT the rough-terrain lift with all-wheel drive, BE the battery-electric version, ND the narrow version with diesel; MX19 is the compact indoor lift with 19 ft, SL26 and SL30 the Speed Level range whose chassis self-levels on slopes. The rough-terrain lifts run on Kubota diesels (D-905) and petrol engines (V-905), the indoor lifts on battery.

The register lists 11 versions with service weights from 1,460 to 15,750 kg, lengths from 1,750 to 5,100 mm and widths from 760 to 2,130 mm; the rough-terrain lifts deliver 16.8 kW.
UpRight lifts are still numerous in the rental fleets of Europe and North America; the Speed Level range with self-levelling chassis was an UpRight invention that Snorkel continues as the SL range.
On used lifts, operating hours, battery condition on electric models, play in scissor pins and rails, hydraulic tightness, the function of tilt and overload sensors and a valid periodic inspection count; parts run through Snorkel, which continues the UpRight spare parts.
