The Finnish term kasettiperävaunu denotes a swap-body trailer, used in Nordic freight transport to transfer standardised loading units between truck, rail and ship. With a gross weight of 50,000 kg the trailer falls into EU trailer class O4, the heavy trailers above 10 tonnes.

With an unladen weight of 10,760 kg, payload comes to roughly 39,240 kg. Length is 12.84 m and width 2.55 m, reaching the maximum width allowed for road vehicles. This high payload relative to a comparatively low kerb weight is typical of swap-body chassis, whose frame is designed to receive fixed loading units rather than carry its own deck.

Class O4 trailers run on compressed-air brakes. A kasettiperävaunu carries the loading unit through locking and support points rather than fixed side walls, allowing a quick change between cassettes or containers, but requiring the locking mechanism to work precisely.

When buying used, the locking and support points for the swap units deserve particular attention, as does the air suspension and the condition of the brake lines along the full length of the frame. On the chassis, look for distortion and rust pockets at the support points, since the entire load is fed into the frame there at concentrated points. A check of the number plate light and the earth connection at the plug rounds off the inspection, as these points corrode unnoticed.
