The Land Cruiser is regarded worldwide as one of the most rugged and capable off-road ranges and, besides private use, is widely deployed by aid organisations, public authorities and in demanding fieldwork. The variants registered as commercial vehicles benefit from the same robust ladder-frame and all-wheel-drive construction as the passenger versions.
On older FJ40 models, corrosion of the ladder frame and wings is a key issue, and on the 90-series turbodiesels the condition of the turbocharger and injection pump as well. The transfer case and differentials should be checked for oil leaks and noise in low-range gear. Parts are readily available owing to the Land Cruiser's wide distribution worldwide, through the Toyota dealer network and specialist off-road workshops.
