Elddis, Compass and Buccaneer are established British caravan brands competing directly there with Bailey and Swift; unlike on the European mainland, the British market favours single-axle and lighter twin-axle caravans on Al-Ko chassis that can be towed by smaller cars.

When buying used, damp in the roof, walls and floor matters above all (damp meter readings at the joints and around windows and roof hatches), the condition of the Al-Ko chassis and the overrun brake, tyre age, the function of the gas system and heating, and MOT-relevant points such as the jockey wheel and lighting. Body and furniture parts for the common ranges are available through specialist caravan suppliers.
