Steelwrist is a Swedish manufacturer of quick couplers, tiltrotators and excavator attachments, whose range also includes tree shears such as the TSX6. A tree shear cuts through trees and shrubs directly at the trunk or branch, rather than felling them or merely holding them with a grapple.

The TSX6 weighs 185 kg and is designed for excavators with an operating weight of 4 to 7 tonnes. It is mounted via the S40/SQ40 quick-coupler interface, part of Steelwrist's own coupler family, which allows tool-free switching between the tree shear and other attachments. The excavator's hydraulic circuit supplies the closing force for the shear.

A tree shear of this size class is used in forestry, in the maintenance of embankments and green strips along roads and railway lines, and in cutting back vegetation in landscape upkeep. Compared with a chainsaw, it allows cutting from a safe distance via the excavator arm, and compared with felling with the excavator itself, it provides a controlled, defined cut.

When buying a used tree shear such as the TSX6, the condition of the blades matters, since they lose sharpness under heavy use and are in some cases re-sharpenable or replaceable. The rotating joint between the interface and the shear should be checked for play, the hydraulic cylinders for tightness, and the S40/SQ40 mount itself for wear at the locking points, since an imprecise fit affects the operating safety of the quick coupler.
