The 1997 L28 has an unladen weight of only 500 kg and, at a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg, makes use of almost the entire available payload range, around 3,000 kg. At 2,500 mm wide, it is a light but comparatively wide trailer, the kind built for bulky rather than heavy goods. Such proportions favour bulky, light cargo rather than dense freight.
An overrun brake is standard at this weight class: braking pushes the trailer slightly onto the tow ball or eye, mechanically triggering the brake. Such a combination can be driven with a category B licence, provided the combined gross weight stays within the licence limit.
On a trailer of this age, the frame and chassis rails deserve particular attention: through-corrosion typically starts at the mountings for axles, suspension and the tow coupling. The brake system should be checked for tightness and even response, and the tyres for flat spots and rubber age regardless of tread depth. Lighting and the underrun guard must be complete, or the next roadworthiness test will fail on that alone.
