As part of Daimler Truck, Fuso draws on group-wide technology for the Canter, for instance in exhaust aftertreatment and driver-assistance systems, while the core design of the cab-over truck remains a Japanese development; the Canter forms the backbone of distribution haulage in Asia, Latin America and Europe, where tipper, refrigerated and flatbed bodies predominate.

On a used example, the condition of the turbocharger and injectors on the common-rail diesels, the clutch and manual gearbox, the AdBlue and particulate-filter exhaust treatment on younger model years, and rust on the frame and brake lines all count; spare parts run through the Fuso dealer network and, for older model years, through independent commercial-vehicle parts suppliers.
