The water-cooled six-cylinder engine displaces 5,958 cm³ and produces 214 hp (157 kW) with 800 Nm of torque. At an unladen weight of 6,590 kg, a wheelbase of 2,810 mm and a width of 2,480 mm, the U 2100 reaches a top speed of over 89 km/h. At 5,270 mm long and 2,850 mm high, it counts among the larger versions of the 437 series.
At over 89 km/h the U 2100 clearly exceeds the 60 km/h limit of the T tractor licence class and is registered as a lorry. The combination of high torque and an off-road chassis on portal axles makes it a carrier for implements front, rear and between the axles, for instance in municipal services and forestry.
When buying a used example, check the condition of the front and rear implement mounting plates and the frame, where corrosion shows at the fixing points. The portal axles carry their own oil in the hub reduction gears, which should be checked regularly. On former municipal or forestry vehicles, it is worth assessing the hydraulic couplings and power take-off. Spare parts are available through Mercedes-Benz's Unimog programme.
