Madill Feller Buncher

Madill of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island is the forestry-machine builder of the Canadian west coast: since 1911 as a supplier to the timber industry, since the 1970s with its own yarders, loaders and feller bunchers for the steep slopes of British Columbia, Washington and Oregon, where Douglas firs and hemlocks of two metres in diameter stand on which the machines of the South fail. Feller bunchers cut the tree with a head on the boom and lay it down in bunches; the type logic: 1200 and 1250 are the lighter range, 2200, 2250 and 3200 the heavy one, B and C the generations, T marks the levelling version in which the upper structure is set horizontal on the slope. The engines come from Cummins (QSL of 8.9 litres), Isuzu (6HK1X of 7.8 litres) and Detroit Diesel (Series 50 of 8.5 litres). Madill went bankrupt in 2008; Nicholson Manufacturing of Sidney near Victoria took over the brand and carries parts and service.
