Horz AT 28 – EU class O4 trailer: 28,000 kg gross vehicle weight, 21,150 kg payload, 9.90 m length, 2.55 m width, built in 1995.

With a gross weight of 28,000 kg, the Horz AT 28 falls into EU trailer class O4, the heavy trailers and semi-trailers above 10 tonnes. Vehicles in this class take on loads in commercial goods transport that a single truck can no longer carry economically, running as a trailer behind a separate towing vehicle. They are used in long-distance haulage, construction traffic and the transport of machinery and bulk goods, where payload determines the economics of each run.

With an unladen weight of 6,850 kg, payload comes to 21,150 kg, considerably more than the trailer's own weight. At 9.90 m long and 2.55 m wide, it stays within the road dimensions typical for this weight class and can be used in ordinary long-distance haulage without a special permit.

From class O3 upwards, trailers of this size are generally fitted with air brakes rather than the simple overrun brake used on light trailers. Towing it as a combination requires driving licence category C1E or CE in the EU, depending on the combined train weight. The air brake system must be checked annually for function and leak-tightness as part of the periodic roadworthiness test.

When buying a used unit, start by checking the frame: cracks or additional weld seams on the main rails are grounds for rejection. Check the brake system for leaks and even action across all axles, listen to the axle bearings for play, check the tyres for even wear, and inspect the drawbar and its coupling eye for wear, cracks and properly executed repairs. Wheel chocks and their holder are part of the basic equipment and should be complete.
