The ZX30U-5 is powered by a water-cooled three-cylinder Yanmar diesel engine from the TNV range with 1,643.6 cm³ displacement, delivering 17.4 kW at 2,400 rpm. The fuel tank holds 42 litres, and the machine's overall height is 2,480 mm.

As a mini excavator under 6 tonnes of operating weight, the ZX30U-5 belongs to the smallest class of tracked excavators. The short-tail-swing design lets the upper structure rotate within, or only slightly beyond, the width of the undercarriage, making the machine suitable for work in narrow gardens, courtyards and around buildings with little room to manoeuvre. The limited height of 2,480 mm also makes it easier to transport under low clearances.

When buying one used, check the condition of the rubber tracks and track rollers, since mini excavators of this class are often used on hard surfaces that accelerate wear. The swing bearing and the bucket and boom hydraulic cylinders should be checked for play and leaks, and the Yanmar engine should come with a complete service history, since the injection pump and cooling system are the most expensive wearing parts in this engine range.
