With an unladen weight of 6,260 kg, payload comes to only 740 kg – at 11.20 m long, 2.48 m wide and with a 6.70 m wheelbase, an exceptionally high unladen weight for its size that leaves little room for additional cargo. Such a distribution is typical of vehicles with a heavy, massively built chassis from that era, or of trailers that carry permanently fitted equipment rather than a changing load.
From this weight class upwards, class O3 trailers are generally fitted with air brakes rather than the simple overrun brake of light trailers. Towing it as a combination requires driving licence category C1E or CE in the EU, depending on the combined train weight.
For a chassis more than 55 years old, the substance of the frame takes centre stage: check the longitudinal beams and cross members for rust-through, especially at welds and axle mounts. Check axle bearings, brake linkage and brake drums for wear, check the lighting system for up-to-date retrofitting, and given the unusually low payload, establish what fixed equipment accounts for the high unladen weight and whether it is still complete and functional.
