Outside the season, the compact footprint when folded is a practical advantage over rigid caravans.

When buying used, check for damp and the condition of the folding roof and canvas panels, the smoothness of the lift and fold mechanism, the axle and drawbar, and the tightness of the roof seams; parts for the folding mechanism and canvas are available from specialist caravan workshops. Hinges and tensioning catches on the folding mechanism should also be checked for play and corrosion, along with the condition of the window zips.
