The S 354 EO dates from 1999 and has an unladen weight of 13,300 kg; against the gross weight of 45,000 kg that leaves a payload of 31,700 kg. Width is 2,550 mm, the standard width for road vehicles in Europe. The comparatively high unladen weight points to a ruggedly built frame designed for heavy, concentrated loads.

In class O4, a multi-axle compressed-air brake system is mandatory; the overrun brake of the lighter classes O1 and O2 is not sufficient above 10 tonnes. Towing requires driving licence category CE, and at this size the axle load distribution also determines which roads and bridges may be used.

When buying used, check the condition of the frame and side members, since corrosion and fatigue cracks appear first at the axle and coupling mounts. The compressed-air brake system belongs on a test rig, as do the brake linings, brake cylinders and the tightness of lines and coupling heads. Axles, axle bearings and suspension should be checked for play and leaks, and the sides or body are worth checking for deformation from past overloading. Exactly one example of this type is registered in the Netherlands; with a 1999 build date, spare parts are a matter for specialists.
