The MB trac 800 carries a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 3,783 cm³ of displacement, producing 72 hp, or 53 kW, at 2,550 rpm. Depending on equipment, the machine weighs roughly 3,450 to 3,950 kg, at 4,100 mm long, 2,710 mm high, 2,120 mm wide and with a wheelbase of around 2,400 mm; top speed is 30 km/h.
At 53 kW and with the raised build typical of the MB-trac, cab set over the front axle, the 800 was built for field work with implements front and rear and for haulage runs on medium-sized farms. That the 440.163, 440.168 and 440.172 ranges followed one another over sixteen years shows the design was refined over time in small technical steps, while keeping the same basic concept of body and drivetrain.
When buying an MB trac 800 used, what matters first is exactly which of the three ranges is present, as technical details can differ between the 440.163, 440.168 and 440.172. Also worth checking are the condition of the frame and the front and rear mounting points, the tightness of the cooling system, and corrosion damage to the cab and mudguards, which appears most often low on the body and around the door hinges.
