The register lists 31 versions with 67 to 75 kW from the four-cylinder engine of 1,998 to 2,800 cm³. Unladen weights range from 1,300 to 1,840 kg, gross vehicle weights from 1,780 to 2,805 kg, lengths from 3,820 to 4,160 mm and widths from 1,580 to 1,820 mm.

The Rocky competed in the compact off-roader segment with the Suzuki Vitara and the Lada Niva, finding buyers chiefly among farmers and foresters as well as through export to markets where simple mechanicals and low running costs mattered more than comfort.

When buying used, what counts is corrosion on the frame, wings and door sills, the condition of the transfer case and driveshafts of the four-wheel-drive system, the turbocharger on turbodiesel variants, and on the open softtop versions the condition of the folding-roof frame and cover. Spare parts are only available to a limited extent outside Japan and mostly run through specialist off-road vehicle dealers.
