Cupra is the standalone brand of Spanish manufacturer Seat, founded in 2018 and based in Martorell near Barcelona. The Born is the brand's first fully electric model and is built on the Volkswagen Group's electric platform, which it shares with other group models. The type designation gives “170 kW” as the electric motor's output and “58/62 kWh” as the battery's usable and gross capacity.

For this model the register lists a single-speed transmission, typical of electric drive, a gross weight of 2,280 kg against a kerb weight of 1,838 kg, giving a payload of 442 kg. The vehicle is 4,322 mm long and 1,809 mm wide.
The electric motor drives through a fixed gear ratio, so no multi-speed gearbox is needed. The relationship between kerb weight and gross weight reflects the typical weight of the fitted battery, which in electric vehicles takes up a larger share of the payload than in a comparable combustion vehicle. As a compact model, the Born is designed for everyday urban traffic, with the battery as the heaviest single component in the vehicle floor.
When buying a used electric model like this, the condition of the battery and its remaining capacity matter more than engine condition would on a combustion vehicle. Charging history, the number of fast-charging cycles and the remaining battery warranty are key checks. Also relevant is the condition of the braking system, which sees less wear thanks to regenerative braking, and the seal of the battery tray in the floor.
