Brandt 13110XL+ – grain auger (swing-away auger) from the Canadian manufacturer: conveying capacity, swing mechanism and set-up angle for on-farm storage

Brandt is a Canadian company with a broad range of grain storage and handling equipment, and it ranks among the well-known manufacturers of grain augers in North America.

A grain auger conveys bulk material such as grain, maize or oilseed through a rotating flighting inside a tube, moving it from the ground or a trailer to storage. On a swing-away version, the upper section of the auger can be swung out to the side, so the machine stays narrow and compact in transport position and is only brought into its working position at the site. Together with its length, the set-up angle determines the discharge height reachable at a bin or shed.

The suitable size depends on the conveying height and throughput needed, and on how the grain arrives – from a trailer or straight off the field. When travelling on public roads, the folded machine must keep within permitted width and comply with lighting requirements.

On a used machine, what counts is wear on the conveying flighting and the tube casing, the condition of the gearbox and drive shaft, how freely the swing mechanism moves, and any cracks or distortion in the chassis and the set-up hydraulics. The hopper flap and the PTO shaft guard also belong on the checklist. It is also worth checking the condition of the drive belt and the bearings in the upper auger section, which wear faster with frequent swinging.
