Barber Greene – further models: the collective page for trailers outside the named series, BKT 27 and RKW5010, 1,090 to 2,500 kg unladen weight, 3,000 to 3,500 kg gross weight

This page collects the Barber Greene trailers that the register does not assign to any named series. Two types are listed: BKT 27 and RKW5010. Both stand in the register as separate entries, and the designations themselves give no indication of a series logic.

The register lists 2 versions here with unladen weights from 1,090 to 2,500 kg, gross weights from 3,000 to 3,500 kg and widths from 1,820 to 2,520 mm; one of the two versions also has a length of 5,150 mm.

Both versions stay within EU trailer category O2 with their gross weight, which spans from 750 to 3,500 kg and requires an overrun brake throughout above the lower limit; below 750 kg, a trailer could instead also be unbraked. On the markedly heavier of the two versions, with a kerb weight of around 2.5 tonnes, the nose weight at the ball hitch is correspondingly higher, so a tow-vehicle hitch with a higher permitted nose weight is needed here rather than on the lighter version.

With gross weights of up to 3.5 tonnes, these trailers fall into the class that can still be towed on a category B or BE licence; the spread of unladen weights from around one tonne to 2.5 tonnes shows that the shared collective page covers both lighter and noticeably more solidly built versions.

When buying used, check the condition of the axle and wheel bearings, the operation of the overrun brake and brake linkage, rust on the chassis and drawbar, and the condition of lighting and the electrical connector as well as tyres and wheels. Spare parts for such small makes usually come through independent trailer workshops rather than a manufacturer network; on the heavier versions it is also worth checking the suspension and brake linings.
