The Volvo FB 88 belongs to the F88 range, which Volvo introduced in 1965 and which was the first European truck with a fully tilting cab; the range was built into the 1970s in Gothenburg, Sweden. The F88 was powered by the Volvo TD120 six-cylinder engine of 9.6 litres; the numerical and letter suffixes in the model names, such as 88-42 or 88-46, denote wheelbase and chassis variant. Volvo was founded in 1927 in Gothenburg and built trucks alongside cars from the outset; the F88 replaced the older ranges with a fixed, non-tilting bonnet.
